Christmas Eve is a magical night!
It’s the one time of year when you can eat as much turkey and stuffing as you want, and still get away with it. It’s also the most wonderful time of year to spend time with family and friends.
Christmas Eve is a night that has its own unique traditions. Many families have their own special ways of celebrating the holiday, but there are also some Christmas Eve traditions that everyone in the country can share in. Here are some of our favorites:
Lighting candles for loved ones.
This is a great idea for families with children who have passed away. It’s a way to honor them and bring their memory back into the forefront at Christmas time. It doesn’t matter how old they were when they passed away — lighting candles for them will always be a touching tradition.
Getting everyone involved in cooking or baking together
Christmas is all about spending time together as a family, so why not get everyone involved in making food? You could even make it competitive and see who can create the best holiday treat.
Watching classic Christmas movies together as a family
Whether it’s “It’s A Wonderful Life,” “Home Alone” or any other favorite film of yours, watching movies gives everyone an opportunity to relax and enjoy each other’s company without feeling pressured about presents or other things that might be going on around the house.”
Opening One Gift Early
There are many different opinions on this issue, but we think opening one gift early can be fun for both kids and adults alike. If you want to do this with your kids then make sure they pick out one toy or gift that they really want from Santa Claus so they don’t get disappointed if they don’t get it in their stocking on Christmas morning. You might also want to consider letting them open one present each year (or every other year) so that they don’t get overwhelmed by too much stuff.
Sipping Hot Chocolate
Nothing says Christmas like a nice hot mug of cocoa! You can make it yourself or buy some from a store – either way, it’s an essential part of any festive celebration. Make sure you drink enough so that Santa Claus knows how good you’ve been this year.
Read the Nativity Story
The Christmas story is one of the most beautiful stories ever told and it’s so important that we take time to read it aloud as a family. We usually read Luke 2:1-20, but there are many versions available online if you want to find one that fits your family’s style.
Watch a Christmas Carol
This is one of my favorite traditions because it helps us focus on what Christmas is really about: Jesus Christ coming into our world to redeem us and show us His love for us through His sacrifice on the cross. Plus, Ebenezer Scrooge is just so funny.
